About Me

Jessica Sims has been teaching and working with children for as long as she can remember. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Boston University and a dual Master’s degree in Childhood Education and Special Education from Fordham University. In addition, Jessica is a certified Orton Gillingham Teacher. She has over 15 years of classroom experience working with students from Kindergarten-6th grade. Most recently, Jessica was a K-2 Resource Room Teacher, where she focused on working with struggling students individually and in small groups.

Jessica uses Orton Gillingham to provide students with individualized, multi-sensory lessons. These lessons are targeted to improve students’ decoding (reading), encoding (spelling), fluency and reading comprehension. Jessica has experience teaching children all aspects of literacy, from letter identification, phonics, spelling, reading fluency and comprehension.

Jessica has vast experience working with students who are struggling to learn to read. This includes students with learning disabilities and dyslexia, attention difficulties, executive functioning, and processing delays. She also works with many general education students who need extra support in their classrooms.
